Dance artist
Agate Bankava is a contemporary dance artist. She began her dance journey with TDA “Uguntiņa”. She later graduated from the Riga Ballet School and the Latvian Academy of Culture, earning both a bachelor's and a master's degree in contemporary dance under the guidance of Professor Olga Žitluhina.
Agate is a Choreographers’ Association and LAUKKU member, and her work has received high recognition in the professional field. In 2019, she was awarded the Dance Prize in the category “Contemporary Dance Choreographer” for the performances “Slikta” (“Bad”), “Memor”, and “Future Freak”. She also received the Spēlmaņu Nakts Award(2018/2019) in the category “Movement Artist of the Year” for the production “Pūt, vējiņi” (“Blow, Wind”).
Agate Bankava continues to push creative boundaries, unveiling new facets of her artistic talent year after year. Currently, she works as the contemporary dance editor for a dance magazine, is part of the Latvian contemporary dance collective within the IcoDaCo project, and serves as the curator of the mini-festival “Ražas svētki/Harvest Party”.
